Therapy FAQ

Answers to Common Questions About Starting Online Therapy

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you've had past experiences that left you confused, dismissed, or unsupported. This page is here to take some of the guesswork out of getting started and help you feel more confident in making your next step.

🌱 Therapy Basics

  • Therapy is a collaborative process that helps you reconnect with yourself, understand your experiences, and build more supportive patterns in your life. It’s not about being “fixed,” it’s about being supported, seen, and heard in a way that honors your whole story.

  • Yes. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, chronic overwhelm, grief, or health-related challenges, therapy offers space for relief, perspective, and deeper self-understanding. You don’t need a crisis to benefit.

  • Sessions last about 53–55 minutes and are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth. Some days are focused and structured; others are more reflective or spacious. We move at your pace, based on what’s most helpful that day.

  • I won’t tell you what to do or prescribe medication. I’ll offer tools, reflections, and observations to help you make informed choices that align with your values and needs.

✅ Starting Therapy

  • If you're wondering, that's already a sign it's worth exploring. You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from support. Therapy helps with stress, life transitions, identity questions, and chronic health struggles—no problem is too small.

  • That depends on what you’re working on. Many people attend weekly sessions for a few months; others stay longer for deeper growth. We’ll check in regularly to make sure the process continues to feel right for you.

  •  Start by scheduling a free 15-minute consultation. We’ll talk through your needs, answer questions, and see if it feels like a good fit. You can also fill out the contact form here if you prefer to start that way.

  • It’s okay to take 2–3 sessions to feel that out. What matters most is whether you feel safe, understood, and supported. If it’s not the right match, I’ll help connect you with someone who might be. Your comfort matters more than "sticking it out."

💳 Payment & Insurance

  • Yes. I’m in-network with Aetna, Cigna, BCBS, United Healthcare, Humana, Optum, and other plans in TX, CO, and FL. During your consult, we’ll verify your coverage and walk through your options. You can also view insurance details here.

  • Private pay sessions are available if you’re not using insurance. I also offer superbills if you'd like to seek out-of-network reimbursement.

  • I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. If cost is a concern, let’s talk during the consultation to explore options.

  • Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations or missed appointments (arriving more than 10 minutes late) incur a $125 fee. Sessions missed by fewer than 10 minutes will still end at the scheduled time.

🔐 Privacy & Emotional Safety

  • Yes. What you share is private, with a few exceptions required by law: if there’s a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of abuse. Using insurance involves minimal sharing for billing purposes. Prior to our first session, you will be provided intake paperwork that will review this information in further detail.

  • Not at all. You are welcome as you are. Therapy is a space where you can show up messy, uncertain, or quiet. I’m here to hold that space with care and without judgment.

  • Of course. You deserve a therapist you feel good with. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll help you find someone who is.

📆 Appointments & Contact

  • My typical business hours are Monday–Thursday, 8:30am–4:00pm CST, and Friday, 8:30am–2:30pm CST. Limited evening sessions may be available.

  • New clients can schedule a free consultation or fill out the contact form. Established clients receive a direct line of communication after onboarding.

  • Please start with the contact form or consultation scheduler. After that, I’ll provide secure ways to reach me by email or phone during business hours.

🌟 Still Not Sure?

  • That’s okay. Therapy doesn’t have to be a big leap, it can start with a quiet conversation. If you’re unsure whether now is the time or if I’m the right person, let’s talk. And if I’m not the right fit, I’ll still support you in taking the next step.
